The Ford Mustang endures as one of the most iconic muscle cars ever built.
First released in 1964, the Mustang is a car that would go on to inspire an entire class of car.
A 1969 example has recently been discovered, having been abandoned in a field in Tennessee.
And its owner has made some…questionable claims about his intentions for it.

Ford Mustang: an icon that fell into decline
By now, most of you will probably be familiar with the Mustang’s story.
In 1964, Ford executives were planning the car that would define the next generation.
Development of the Mustang project was completed in just 18 months.
It was spearheaded and supervised by Ford Division general manager Lee Iacocca.
The muscle car became an immediate hit, selling over 400,000 units in its first year alone.

Within two years, one million Mustangs had rolled out the doors of the assembly plant in Michigan.
Sadly, the first generation started to seriously decline in sales.
Various upgrades and changes were made, but the muscle car just grew bigger and heavier.
Following that performance decline, many buyers switched to models such as the Maverick and Pinto.

And that brief history lesson leads us into today’s story.
The good news is that recently, a 1969 Mustang has been discovered in a field in Tennessee.
Unfortunately, that’s where the good news ends for this particular example.
That’s because it looks like it’s been left in the field since 1969.
In fact, the rust and the elements have completely robbed this car of its former glory.
The person selling the car, eBay user dixiestampede82, has a pretty dubious explanation.

The man who abandoned said car claimed that he’d actually wanted to save the classic.
However, given its current condition, you’d be forgiven for being more than a little skeptical.
Thankfully, there is one silver lining in this dark, rusted-out cloud.
The muscle car needs a full restoration, but now it can be sold on to someone willing to do the work.
We’ll admit – this is a big undertaking, but it could be an amazing project car for the right person.
Regardless, we hope to see this 1969 Ford Mustang restored to its former glory very soon.
