Samsung and Apple have gone toe-to-toe as the biggest mobile tech giants in the world for a decade, but if you thought the scales had tipped in favor of the iPhone, nobody told the Galaxy S25, as it’s broken years of sales patterns.
It’s a battle that has been ongoing ever since smartphones were introduced and took over from the likes of Blackberry and Motorola.
Samsung struck first with its touch-screen mobiles, while Apple has all of the momentum in 2025 due to its new fleet.
But the Samsung Galaxy S25 has just defied every sales pattern the series has had since the S10 in 2019, and it spells worry for Apple.

Samsung sales surge with Galaxy S25 at the helm
Despite being overtaken by Apple last month as the world’s biggest phone provider, ending a 14-year tenure at the top, Samsung is still full of fresh ideas to get its throne back.
From bringing back the flip phone to creating special caviar-donned cybertruck-esque Galaxy S4s, the phonemaker isn’t slowing down.
But it’s actually just standard models that are now doing the heavy lifting.
According to analyst Ice Universe, the Galaxy S25 has shown a spike in sales six months after its release, which is something the series hasn’t seen in seven years.

“For Android flagships, the sales pattern is usually very clear: launch hype, a peak in the first two or three months, and then a steady decline until the next generation arrives,” they said, using the S22, S23, and S24 as examples.
“But the S25 is different. Looking at this 12-month sales chart, it does decline after the initial peak, but then shows a clear rebound around months 8 and 9.
“This kind of mid-to-late cycle recovery is extremely rare in the history of the Galaxy S series.”
Why the spike is bad for both Apple iPhone and Samsung
Naturally, you’d think that a major spike in sales is a good thing for the Galaxy S25 to be surging in sales.
However, one interpretation of this is that consumers have scouted the market for current and upcoming phones and chose that the Galaxy S25 is ahead of the pack.
That means that they saw the iPhone 17 and immediately hit the shops for the latest Samsung.

But it also means that with rumors of the S26 circulating, Samsung stans are less than impressed with the reports that it will only be a softly updated model, and have chosen to put their eggs in this basket before falling to the inflated premium sales.
“Within that context, this is one of the healthiest and most interesting sales curves the Galaxy S series has shown in years,” they said.
