This American decided to use a 2025 Ram 1500 Hurricane 3.0 Turbo pickup truck to tow a 6,500LBS trailer just to see what fuel economy it could get.

YouTuber CTECH-REVIEW posted the video as a YouTube Short, hoping that the truck would be more economical than a Hemi V8 pickup while towing.

While it’s a short video, it’s interesting to see how poor the truck’s fuel economy was after a few hundred miles.

The video is an indicator that you shouldn’t use a thirsty pickup truck to tow anything over a long distance.

The Ram 1500 Hurricane Turbo is one of Ram’s most powerful trucks

As you would probably expect from the name, the 1500 Hurricane 3.0 Turbo is one of Ram’s most powerful trucks.

Ram says that the 3.0-liter Hurricane turbocharged engine can produce 420 HP and 469LB-FT of torque.

If you opt for the high-output version, you get 540HP and 521LB-FT of torque.

Both engines have strong towing capacities.

The high-output engine can tow 9,920LBS, whereas the standard Hurricane can tow 11,550LBS.

Both can easily tow the 6,500LBS trailer in the YouTube video.

However, the YouTuber doesn’t make it clear which version of the Hurricane engine is in his truck.

The video briefly shows the massive trailer before he sets off, and it’s easy to see why the Ram might struggle with fuel economy.

The Ram had terrible economy figures over the journey

At the end of the video, we see the statistics for the Ram 1500 after its long journey.

The total distance traveled was 235.4 miles, and it took four hours and 47 minutes to complete the trip.

Unsurprisingly, the economy was poor. The Ram 1500 averaged just 10.4MPG combined.

The YouTuber’s disappointment can be clearly heard as he reveals the statistics.

However, while that sounds very doom and gloom, there are more economical trucks on the market.

Electric trucks such as the Ford F-150 Lightning and Rivian R1T would be excellent options for towing.

The regular F-150 and the current Chevrolet Silverado 1500 are also reasonably priced in terms of fuel economy.

They can average 23/29 MPG in the city and highways, respectively.

The moral of the story, however, is don’t pick a thirsty Ram 1500 pickup for long drives with heavy loads if fuel economy is a priority.
