When you think of a throwback car, a DeLorean will often spring to mind.

That’s fitting given that the car was embedded in pop culture through its appearances in the Back to the Future films.

But one YouTuber had quite the challenge on his hands when it came to a DeLorean found in a barn.

Not only did it only have 977 miles left on it, it also hadn’t been out on the roads in eighteen years.

Can the DeLorean still work after eighteen years?

YouTube channel DeLorean Nation decided to head down to the Wisconsin barn to see if they could get the car to start.

Host Kevin Thomas gave his viewers an up-close and personal look at the car, and it was evident that time hadn’t been kind to it.

A spiders nest was embedded in the side and the windows were covered in cat claws.

But that’s just the interior – how is the engine looking?

It needed a lot of work, let’s just say. With or without the mouse droppings that had been left in there.

But after a day of toiling on the car, it was time for the moment of truth.

Would this DeLorean run again?

Indeed it would – albeit sounding like it had indeed come from 1955 with Marty McFly.

The backstory to the DeLorean

The car was first launched in 1981, but only 9,000 were made before the factory closed for bankruptcy.

This particular car was found back in October 2023 by Thomas and his co-host Michael McElhattan.

Speaking to CNN at the time, McElhattan said: “It’s always cool to see another one come out of the woodwork that’s been lost to the community.

“It’s literally like a time machine in that way, traveling back to 1981 when it was manufactured.”

McElhattan is the owner of DeLorean Midwest and dedicates his time to restoring the cars to their former glory.
