Six hours, a quick splitter install, and a fresh vinyl DIY wrap to cover up the rock chips and cracks on the tired front bumper of his Honda S2000.
That’s how simple YouTuber Mellow Conner thought this whole project would be.
Instead, it spiraled into a two-day battle against heat, glue, and his own optimism.
By the time he finally stepped away, exhausted and delusional at 11pm, the car did look different. Just not in the clean, polished way he had imagined.

The $300 mod that ate Conner’s weekend
The front bumper of Conner’s Honda S2000 was looking beat-up – chipped paint, cracks, and years of wear had left it tired.
Rather than pay for a respray, he set out to give it a budget refresh and some protection with a vinyl wrap, plus a cheap eBay splitter to test the look.
The plan seemed straightforward: remove the bumper, bolt on the splitter, and cover the front end in fresh black vinyl.
The splitter? Surprisingly smooth install. But then things got complicated. Conner’s DIY wrap journey proceeded to ‘absolutely kick [his] butt.’

Every beginner mistake reared its head.
The vinyl trapped air like a balloon, ripped off old paint when he repositioned it, and bunched around every curve.
Two hours in, he thought about giving up. Six hours in, he was still chasing bubbles. 12 hours in, night had fallen, and he was still out there with the heat gun.
The next morning, he dragged himself back into the garage to keep going.

More tape, more stretching, even a pinstripe to cover the worst mis-cuts.
By this point, the wrap finally looked ‘half decent’… from eight feet away.
Up close? Bubbles, lines, uneven edges, and every scar of the process was still visible.
But finishing it himself mattered more than perfection. Having completed the project on his own, Conner ‘made it to the goal.’
The DIY wrap didn’t come out flawless, but he didn’t bail. And that says more about him and the car than any clean finish ever could.
You’ve probably seen this Honda S2000 before
Conner’s Honda is no garage machine.
This is the same S2000 that’s scraped canyons and soaked up road trip scars on his well-documented journeys.
So a rough DIY wrap fits right in.
The car’s never been about spotless finishes or sponsor budgets – it’s about chasing the drive and learning along the way.

Conner’s even admitted he runs his channel at a loss and is still calling it his dream job.
At the end of the weekend, the S2000 didn’t get a perfect facelift. It got a rough-around-the-edges finish that tells the story.
Proof that sometimes the hardest part of a project is just finishing it.
