This man from Kansas bought a used 2014 Maserati Ghibli and spent $20,000 trying to fix it, but the car was riddled with catastrophic failures, and the mechanic working on it called it quits.

Replacing a bad engine is anything but cheap, and this supercar has had three faulty engines.

After its owner and the mechanic spent countless hours trying to make it driveable, they both eventually gave up.

In the end, the owner was left with a massive bill and a brick of a car — sort of.

Man empties wallet on Maserati Ghibli with three engine failures

Kansas-based Tyler Hoover from the Hoovies Garage YouTube channel bought this Maserati Ghibli, thinking he could restore it to working condition.

That, however, remained a dream.

In a video on his channel, Tyler revealed that the Maserati initially came with a bad engine.

But he wasn’t too worried about that because he planned to replace the entire thing.

After all, he paid just $10,000 for the Maserati — so spending a couple thousand more wouldn’t hurt.

But this Maserati’s story kept going downhill as the ‘new’ engine replacement was also faulty and had to be replaced.

Most people would give up at this point and sell the car to avoid losing more money — but Tyler really wanted to see this car conquer the roads.

This wasn’t his first time making decisions he would eventually regret, either.

Tyler once traded in a working Lamborghini Countach for a broken Bugatti Veyron.

Although the Veyron was restored, and he even put it on the track, it was a lot of work.

Its mechanic was done with it

The Maserati Ghibli got its third engine, and its mechanic, also a YouTuber called ‘The Car Wizard,’ gave it his all to fix everything.

After thousands of dollars in parts and labor, the Maserati was somewhat driveable.

You see, the engine and every other piece of hardware was in working condition.

However, the engine was faulty yet again, and it made growling sounds at high speeds and revs induced by knocking pistons.

That translates to a bad engine that could only survive for a few months at best.

Overall, Tyler had a $10,000 bill with the mechanic, and the Maserati was still broken.

Both of them eventually realized it was, unfortunately, time to call it quits.

“Maybe on grandpa’s ’95 Chevy or something, you could do a used engine, but on newer cars today with timing chains and plastic parts, no,” the mechanic said.

This might be why a car like the Ghibli was found abandoned among other supercars in an LA garage.

Fortunately for Tyler, he had someone interested in the car who offered him the same amount he bought the car for.

Even though money was lost, lessons were learned.
