During last night’s Super Bowl, Jeep debuted a new advert and trolled Ford in the process.

The all important ad featured Harrison Ford, talking about how life doesn’t have an owner’s manual.

And life certainly doesn’t have guidance to follow when it comes to brand competition either.

Having Mr Ford himself star in the short film – did you notice that? – was just one of the ways in which Jeep hilariously trolled their competitors.

An oldie but goldie, Ford has been around for a long old time

Ford was founded in 1903 by Henry Ford, with the first Model T coming into play just five years later in 1908.

Whereas the first Jeep was made in 1940, the ‘Quad’ 4×4.

According to Jeep: “In June 1940, with World War II on the horizon, the U.S. Army solicited bids from 135 automakers for a quarter-ton ‘light reconnaissance vehicle’ tailored to army specifications.

The website continues: “Only three companies responded — Bantam, Willys, and Ford — but, within a year’s time they collectively produced the template for the vehicle known worldwide as the ‘Jeep'”.

“Willys-Overland delivered the prototype ‘Quad’ (named for the 4×4 system it featured), to the U.S. Army on Armistice Day (Veteran’s Day), November of 1940. The design was completed in a remarkable 75 days.”

Remarkably, Jeep also says that just two prototypes were made.

Coincidentally, just a few years later, Harrison Ford was born in Chicago, Illinois, on the 13th July 1942.

Jeep used Harrison Ford to troll their competitor

The brand cleverly used the actor to troll the company that goes by the same name.

The advert talks about freedom, writing your own story, and doing what makes you happy.

It features a Jeep Wrangler 392 Hemi alongside a Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid

It is set in a cosy wooden chalet to give all the homely vibes, too.

But the ultimate burn comes when on the advert when a Jeep zooms past a Ford Bronco on a dusty, dirt road – talk about shade.

What’s more, the epic ad has the ultimate shady ending too.

Harrison Ford ends the video quipping: “This Jeep makes me happy, even though my name is Ford.”

Ouch.

Ford might need some time to recover from shade being thrown by another Ford.

We’ll have to wait and see what their response is.
