Believe it or not, it’s been two whole years since the Tesla Cybertruck was released

The love-it-or-hate-it truck was first unveiled in 2019, and drew a lot of attention.

Tesla began accepting $10,000 refundable reservations for the Cybertruck that same year. But customers who were interested faced a bit of a wait, with first deliveries not kicking off until 2023.

Since then, Cybertruck prices have gone up and down, much like its sales.

How does today’s Tesla Cybertruck price compare to 2023?

When Tesla boss Elon Musk first announced the launch of the Cybertruck back in 2019, he claimed it would have a starting price of $39,900.

However, before the Cybertruck was even released, this jumped up pretty drastically.

During a delivery event in 2023, Musk confirmed there would be three variants of the truck, each with its own price.

The cheapest of the bunch was the single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) with a price tag of $60,990; followed by the dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) priced at $79,990; and finally, the most expensive model, the tri-motor AWD, known as the Cyberbeast, which was priced at $99,990.

In April this year, the RWD model was rebranded as the Long Range Cybertruck and had its price increased to $69,990.

But in September, Tesla quietly killed off the Long Range Cybertruck, making the AWD the cheapest model at $79,990.

Alongside that, back in August, Tesla increased the price of its Cyberbeast from $99,990 to $114,990.

The price was increased after Tesla included the non-optional Luxe Package as part of the deal.

The Luxe Package includes Supervised Full Self-Driving, four-year premium service, free lifetime premium connectivity, and free lifetime Supercharger access.

So, as of today, there are a couple of Cybertruck options available: the $79,990 AWD or the $114,990 Cyberbeast, both of which are long way away from the original suggested price of under $40,000.

There’s another expense to think about, too

The initial cost of the Tesla Cybertruck isn’t the only expense.

Generally speaking, it costs a lot less to run an EV than an ICE-powered vehicle.

But when it comes to the Cybertruck, there is another expense to watch out for.

According to reports from earlier this year, it costs about $1,000 a year more to insure a Cybertruck than the average vehicle.

One woman in Massachusetts saw her insurance costs quadruple after she switched from a Model 3 to a Cybertruck.

While other motorists have had trouble getting their trucks insured at all.
