Volvo is a car manufacturer that is instantly recognizable all over the world, but it turns out that one model series stood out from the rest in its production.
The model, the 240, was first unveiled to the world in the 1970s and made a name for itself thanks to the clever safety features and perks it boasted.
From comfy seats to clever seatbelts, the car was the epitome of safety for many.
And, even after production of the powerhouse was halted, the car was still very much in demand.

The Volvo 240 series changed the vehicle industry and paved the way in terms of safety
When it comes to creating safe and reliable cars, Volvo knows its stuff.
From standard sedans to 4x4s, the car company has produced a variety of models that have sold impressive numbers.
But, there’s one stand-out model series that has stood a clear test of time, the 240.

The model was first unveiled in 1974, with the angular design becoming a phenomenon that didn’t just keep costs down, but also ensured safety, too.
“These features allowed for the integration of innovations like crumple zones and large bumpers, specifically engineered to absorb the kinetic energy of collisions, thereby providing greater protection,” explained Volvo.
The 240 was produced for a whopping 19 years, with its run ultimately ending in 1993 after selling 2.8 million units.
In fact, only recently, the XC60 took over the top spot of the best-selling car for the company as a whole, proving that it was a highly sought-after model.
The 240’s design was actually inspired by a benchmark safety vehicle, known as the ‘Volvo Experimental Safety Car’.
“The forecarriage had spring struts and rack-and-pinion steering gear.

“The engine had four cylinders and overhead camshafts and an aluminium-alloy cylinder head,” explained the car brand itself.
Plus, it also had three-point inertia-reel safety belts and ‘comfortable’ upholstery too.
Thanks to its features, it was even awarded distinctions, including ‘Safety Car of the Year’ and ‘Family Car of the Year’.
Talk about a humble brag.
Volvo’s reliability has made it a firm favorite among drivers
Thanks to the cars being made to be long-lasting, the brand is loved by gearheads all over the world.
In fact, one model on offer managed to drive a mighty 3.2 million miles and never broke down.
Plus, as the car world is moving on from gas-powered cars to EVs, Volvo is adapting too. The CEO even revealed that every single new car will be electric by around 2035.
Talk about adapting to the times and keeping your audience tuned in.
