Did you know that there’s an Apple feature that lets you turn your iPhone into your car keys using just your iPhone wallet?

The setup is quick once you have a compatible vehicle and the latest iOS, and it means the days of keeping track of your keys AND your phone are long behind you.

The idea is to move everything into your phone and leave the bulky key fob behind because you will always know where your phone is.

This guide walks you through the exact steps to make your phone the key to your daily drive.

You can now store your car keys in your iPhone wallet

For some tech fans, the daily ritual of remembering your house keys, car keys, AND your phone will be no more.

Most major brands now support digital keys through their official apps, including BMW, Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis.

However, if you update your iPhone to the latest iOS, and then open the app linked to your vehicle, you’ll find a feature labeled Digital Key.

The car key app will walk you through a short verification process that uses your physical key fob and your Apple ID to confirm ownership.

Once verified, the app asks you to place your iPhone on the vehicle’s NFC reader, usually found near the center console, and that action completes the pairing between key and car.

Your new digital key is then added to the Apple Wallet app. The feature also supports Express Mode, which means you can unlock the car without waking the phone or opening any apps.

Apple stores the key securely inside the device, so the opening system works even when the phone battery is extremely low.

The ‘Where are my keys?’ days are no more

With everything set up, unlocking the car becomes automatic. You can even walk up to the door with your iPhone in your pocket, and the car recognizes the digital key, then unlocks the moment you touch the handle.

Once inside, place the phone near the key reader or keep it in your pocket and press the start button. The vehicle senses the digital key instantly, and the car is ready to drive.

You can also lock the car with the phone by tapping it near the reader or by using the lock button on the door.

Your iPhone Wallet lets you share digital keys with trusted contacts, and you can revoke access at any time.

The era of ‘Where are my keys?’ is well and truly over!
