With many car manufacturers now making their own infotainment software, many people are now finding that they want to turn off Apple CarPlay. So, here’s how.
For years, Apple CarPlay has been a stalwart in nearly every car on the road.
With the minor exception of the Tesla fleet and some supercars, the Apple hub has provided music, phone calls, and map services for millions of drivers.
But the tech giant’s iron-clad grip on the automobile infotainment system is starting to falter, and now more people than ever are looking to turn it off.

How to turn off Apple CarPlay
Despite iOS 26 coming with some amazing new features to the infotainment software, more people are thinking of driving without the assistance of Apple and Siri.
Whether it’s the lack of software upgrades, or people finding the iPhone merging tech too distracting, some drivers are heading back to the factory products from the carmakers instead.
But in order to turn it off, you need to be pulled over or stationary, as you’ll need your iPhone and its Settings app.

To turn off Apple CarPlay, you simply need to open the Settings App, select General, select CarPlay, select the vehicle paired to your device, and press ‘Forget This Car’.
This temporarily leaves you without the product until the time comes when you want to pair up again.
For a more permanent removal, though, there’s a different process.
This time, open Settings again, select Screen Time, select Content & Privacy, toggle the Restrictions to ‘on’, select Allowed Apps & Features, and toggle ‘off’ CarPlay.
This will block it for good. Of course, you can follow those steps again to toggle it back on, but this will stop you being able to pair as quickly as a Bluetooth connection comes around.
Apple CarAway: why brands are moving on from the dominant software
Why is this sudden trend to turn off Apple CarPlay emerging?
Well, it comes off the back of many automakers claiming that they are making their in-house products better and moving away from the iPhone creators’ hosted platform.
Recently, the Rivian CEO revealed that his fleet will never use the application because their own software is more in touch with the new trend of having complete car control on the screen.
While a GM chief said the maker is moving away from it because Steve Jobs would have.
Even ahead of CarPlay Ultra.

Some brands have stood by the new software, but that doesn’t mean the individual drivers must oblige, and they can continue to use the alternate software that will be provided by the carmakers.
However, unless Apple heeds the advice of Jim Farley, Ford could be the next brand to turn off Apple CarPlay for good, and that might just be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.
