A new 1,864-mile solid-state battery from Huawei could transform the EV world and be a real game-changer.
Electric car manufacturers have been seeking ways to increase range and discover the next big thing in the segment.
Huawei might have found that, after filing a patent for a new solid-state battery that could transform EVs and deliver a driving range of nearly 2,000 miles.
With range anxiety still a big thing for many, this could be the development in the EV world that everyone has been waiting for.

What is so special about the Huawei solid-state battery?
The solid-state EV battery developed by Huawei is solid-state.
Not lithium-ion, which we see in cars such as a Tesla or Hyundai Ioniq.
A solid-state battery has a higher energy density, around two to three times more than a lithium-ion battery pack.
A higher energy density means the potential for more power, but also for much greater range.
Huawei has also said the battery could fully recharge in an incredible five minutes.

But the biggest thing is that the batteries can offer so much more range from lithium-ion cells.
China’s range tests have the battery producing 3,000km of range, around 1,864 miles.
That is an astonishing figure, and could eliminate range anxiety in one swoop.
The batteries could set new industry standards
The impressive stats behind the batteries show they could set some new standards.
Having up to 2,000 miles of range is unprecedented and should eliminate any range anxiety.
The ability to recharge the car in five minutes also helps in that regard.
It means drivers will spend no longer recharging the car than they would refuelling at a gas station.
There will no longer be a need to allow for the extra 20+ minutes on a journey with other electric cars.

The short charging times could also cut down on costs for owners, with them now paying for less time at a charger.
What the batteries also do is show that China could tighten its grip on the EV race.
Who knows what the next step beyond 2,000 miles of range and five-minute charging could be?
