March 2025 saw the announcement of a big project from Hyundai.
The South Korean brand would announce a brand-new manufacturing facility.
It is located 25 miles from downtown Savannah in Bryan County, Georgia.
Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) is a massive expansion.
The project sees the marque increase vehicle production from 300,000 to 500,000 per year.
It is, according to reports, the single largest economic development project in the state of Georgia’s history.
This HMGMA facility is crafted with the goal of increasing Electric Vehicle (EV) production.

The facility in Bryan County, Georgia, currently employs over 1,200 people.
At the moment, the facility currently focuses on building two Hyundai models.
These are the Ioniq 5 hatchback, as well as the larger Ioniq 9 car.
The new 3,000-acre plant is just one part of a much bigger expansion plan.
South Korea’s premier brand has also announced a brand-new, $4 billion battery production plant.
It announced a partnership with LG Energy Solutions (LGES) to build the plant in order to supply batteries for the Ioniq models in 2026.
Hyundai used a visit to the White House to announce an investment plan of $21 billion over three years.

Aside from its current facility in Georgia, the wider plan includes investment in Louisiana.
Specifically, Hyundai’s plan revolves around a $5.8 billion steel mill to support the Georgia facility.
The signs appear to be very positive for South Korea’s flag-flying brand.
In the first half of 2024, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 was the best-selling, non-Tesla EV in America.
If EV demand continues to follow current trends, then Hyundai could be well-placed to lead the market.
