Turns out the latest Hyundai EV isn’t a sleek SUV or a luxury sedan, it’s actually Hyundai’s smallest EV: a mini electric vehicle built to go where larger cars cannot.
Hyundai revealed the E3W and E4W concepts at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo, introducing a three-wheeled tuk-tuk and a compact four-wheeler designed for tight city streets.
Developed in partnership with TVS Motor Company, these mini electric vehicles are aimed at urban environments where space, efficiency, and practicality are essential.
Hyundai plans to produce the E3W in India, while the E4W is being evaluated for potential global markets.

Hyundai’s smallest EV built for city streets
The Hyundai E3W has been designed to tackle dense urban conditions with features like an adjustable body height that can rise to clear flooded roads.
Larger tires provide a smoother ride over potholes and rough surfaces, while tow hooks have been added for additional utility in difficult scenarios.
The E4W follows a similar approach but adds the stability of four wheels, making it a compact alternative for cities where full-size vehicles are becoming impractical.

SangYup Lee, Hyundai’s Global Design Chief, confirmed that the E3W will be produced locally in India.
Meanwhile, the E4W remains under review as Hyundai assesses international market potential.
Beyond the base models, Hyundai also showcased several mini electric vehicle variants tailored for last-mile delivery services, urban police patrols, and even a sporty N-branded concept.
All of these versions are built on the same adaptable platform, focusing purely on functional urban mobility rather than luxury or performance.
Global launch still uncertain for Hyundai EVs
Hyundai has not confirmed whether the E3W or E4W will be introduced to markets like the United States.
The strong demand for large SUVs and trucks, combined with import tariffs, presents significant obstacles for these smaller Hyundai EVs in North America.
Europe, however, is seen as a more viable option.
With many European cities tightening emissions regulations and restricting large vehicles, mini electric vehicles like the E3W and E4W could appeal to urban drivers looking for compact, electric alternatives.

Hyundai’s smallest EV is part of the company’s broader electrification strategy.
The upcoming launch of the IONIQ 2 at the Munich Motor Show will expand Hyundai’s compact EV lineup, positioning it beneath the Inster EV and Kona Electric.
Meanwhile, Hyundai’s manufacturing plant in Georgia, USA, remains focused on larger models like the IONIQ 5 and the new three-row IONIQ 9.

The E3W, E4W, and Hyundai’s wider mini electric vehicle concepts reflect the company’s focus on solving urban congestion through targeted, compact solutions.
While the E3W is confirmed for production in India, the E4W’s future will depend on how global cities adapt to micro-mobility strategies.
These smallest EVs are built to meet the growing demand for flexible, efficient transport options in urban environments, giving Hyundai a foothold in the evolving landscape of city mobility.
