Idaho man creates 130hp Corvette bed go kart and takes it to the streets

A Corvette bed is supposed to be for sleeping, not scaring the life out of you at 50mph.

But in Idaho, one guy turned it into a 130-horsepower street weapon and then actually drove it alongside a Lamborghini.

It’s running a sports bike engine, has real brakes (most of the time), and is fast enough to make its own driver nervous.

The latest shakedown run involved fire, bugs, and a moment where the steering almost sent it off a cliff.

From Corvette bedtime story to nightmare on wheels

Built by the team at Bum Motorsport, the ‘Corvette bed kart’ is exactly what it sounds like – the molded plastic shell from a kid’s Corvette bed bolted to a custom go-kart chassis.

Except under that bodywork is a 130 horsepower sports bike engine, so it’s more superbike than sleepover.

The first test drive was a disaster… in a fun way. Melted bodywork, failing brakes, a chain lockup – if it could break, it did.

Before they dared take it to public roads, the guys stripped it down and started fixing the obvious death traps.

They flushed the coolant system to stop rust, fireproofed the body panels with 300-degree aluminum tape, and bled the brakes using a squirt-bottle trick they picked up from the comments section.

The steering linkage was reinforced with an actual wrench. The jackshaft was rebuilt after a chain tensioner failure. Even the nose was given support beams so it wouldn’t fold into the wheels at speed.

When it finally went back on the road, first gear was ‘borderline unmanageable,’ second was still scary but a lot more fun, and 50mph felt like triple that thanks to the seating position basically being ‘on the ground’.

The Corvette bed kart races a Lamborghini

For maximum absurdity, they then took the Corvette to the streets for another try, alongside a red Lamborghini, and while it may not have won any races, the drive was quite an experience.

Halfway through the cruise, the homemade brake rotor warped, overheated, and literally caught fire. The driver bailed out to cool it off, claiming the heat ‘melted [his] butt.’

Later, the wrench steering brace popped loose during a drift, nearly sending it off-road.

And still, viewers couldn’t get enough.

“Looks a lot better than I thought it would, love the build!” one wrote.

Another called it ‘one of my all-time favorites out of all the BUM projects’.

“You turned a plastic Corvette bed into a race car and drove it next to a Lambo… THAT’S INCREDIBLE!!!” said a third.

It’s part engineering, part chaos, and all ridiculous.

A Corvette bed doing 50mph next to a Lamborghini isn’t something you see every day, but here we are.

And judging by the ear-to-ear grins and the love in the comments, we probably will again.
