One mom from Indiana decided to share factors as to why she decided against buying a Tesla Model Y for her family.

Teslas are often the EV of choice for people wanting to make the switch from gas to battery power.

But, as you’d expect, the autos do not come cheap.

Let’s dive into her reasoning, shall we?

Tesla has a big fleet of EVs under its belt

The EV company even launched one of its cars into space – that Roadster is travelling at 11,000MPH but hasn’t yet exceeded its 36,000-mile warranty.

Plus, someone else even transformed a Cybertruck into the ultimate space-age camper.

But, despite Tesla’s glowing successes, some motorists aren’t all that keen on the company’s fleet of cars

One mom from Indiana proved this when she shared how she almost purchased herself a Tesla Model Y for her family. But thanks to five factors, she ultimately chose another auto instead.

The Tesla Model Y has some pretty cool features

Standard features include a long-range battery, with a range of 327 miles, and a time of only 4.6 seconds to reach 0-60MPH.

Plus, it has an ‘immersive soundscape’ thanks to acoustic glass, and savvy tech features such as a live weather map.

But, despite its unique uses, this mom still wasn’t convinced this was the right EV for her family.

Five deciding factors helped her change her mind

She detailed how anxiety regarding the range, as well as charging infrastructure, was part of the reason.

“Some worry that they will run out of battery power while driving and before they can make it to the next charging station,” said the mom.

Charging infrastructure very clearly relates to this matter too. Some Superchargers can be expensive or, thanks to the rise in popularity, increasingly busy.

She said that aside from the upfront cost of purchasing the EV, other added prices can include insurance, maintenance, and charging costs, alongside the resale value.

As for the quality of the interior design, she wasn’t impressed and also said that the Tesla relies on screens to perform a lot of actions.

The Model Y carries a hefty price tag

Furthermore, the cost of the vehicle also played a part in her decision against snapping up a Model Y.

The 2025 Tesla Model Y costs between $50,630–$61,630 – so the purchase is far from small, let’s put it that way.

What do you think?

Do you agree with the mom’s thoughts and feelings, or are you a Model Y lover?
