Gerry McGovern, the design chief at Jaguar, has reportedly left the company amidst the backlash against the brand’s controversial rebrand.
You may recall the much-talked-about rebrand last year, in which it unveiled a new logo and a total makeover.
This was done to kickstart its ‘electric era’, but fans weren’t feeling the spark.
And now, the man at the head of this rebrand has reportedly parted ways with the company.

As Jaguar design chief Gerry McGovern steps down, we look back on the brand’s controversial makeover
Cast your mind back to the end of last year.
As people were getting ready for Christmas, Jaguar dropped a massive rebrand.
Out went the iconic animalistic logo, and in came a more rounded design with a mix of uppercase and lowercase characters.

This was accompanied by a bright and colorful ad, in which the brand urged its viewers to ‘break molds’.
All of that was accompanied by scenes of people decked out in flamboyant outfits – but no cars in sight.

This was part of its move towards EVs.
“Jaguar was always at its best when challenging convention. That ethos is seen in our new brand identity today and will be further revealed over the coming months,” Managing Director Rawdon Glover said at the time.

It was a bold, creative choice, but it didn’t land with its target audience.
Well, the man who spearheaded the campaign – Gerry McGovern – has now reportedly left Jaguar in what could be part of a big shakeup.
What has been reported so far?
According to reports from Autocar, McGovern was asked to leave the firm as his position was terminated ‘with immediate effect’.
This news comes a week after new CEO PB Balaji took over from retiring Adrian Mardell.
At this point, details surrounding McGovern’s reported departure are still a little sparse.

It can’t be concluded with any certainty that his leaving is directly linked to the brand’s image in recent years.
Watch this space, as we expect that more developments will come from this story over the next few weeks.
Jaguar declined to provide a comment when approached.
