Jeff Bezos isn’t short on cash, thanks to the success of Amazon, and that is evidenced by his $500 million luxury ship that he recently brought to Costa Rica, accidentally creating a dolphin paradise.
Bezos’s vessel stands out amongst the luxury ships and superyachts of the world, partially because of the size of the Koru, but also because of its design.
Yet while enjoying a holiday with wife Lauren Sánchez, the yacht’s pressure wave created the perfect place for dolphins to play around in, and that led to some brilliant views from the Koru.
It turns out superyachts can be more than just playthings for humans; they can also benefit wildlife.
This is how the ship created the dolphin playground
As the luxury ship went along, it created a pressure wave.
The huge hull of Koru created this, and it turned out to be a wonderful side effect.
This created some interesting hydrodynamics, causing the dolphins to rise towards the surface.
With this wave, the dolphins were able to ride it and surf, with minimal effort.
Sánchez posted videos on her Instagram Story, showing the dolphins riding the waves.

With a cruising speed of 15 knots, there were plenty of waves for the sea creatures to surf on.
Of course, this isn’t all that Koru is good for.
Bezos owns one of the biggest and most luxurious yachts on the planet.
Why the Koru is the pride and joy of Jeff Bezos
For $500 million, Bezos made sure that the yacht was packed with luxury.
The huge vessel was built by Dutch company Oceanco, with construction beginning in 2021.
Bezos and Sánchez took delivery of the Leviathan in 2023.

Everything about this ship is expensive.
Jeff Bezos didn’t just pay $500 million for it, but it costs at least $25 million in annual maintenance.
Such is its size and luxury that it even has a support yacht, the Abeona.
Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez are clearly in full vacation mode, spotted heading off on their lavish Costa Rica getaway.

After a series of transfers — first from a helicopter to the support vessel Abeona, then by speedboat to their superyacht Koru — the couple finally came… pic.twitter.com/0MCvd5pDjn
At a ridiculous 417ft long, the Koru is actually bigger than some oil tankers.
In fact, it even has trouble docking at some ports.
But for someone worth over $200 billion, that is a very small price to pay for such luxury.
