Jerry Seinfeld was asked to give his Mercedes back after it was discovered that it wasn’t legal to drive in the US.
The comedian is known for his love of cars, but this vehicle didn’t stay in his ownership for long.
The 1997 W210 Mercedes E-Class is a stunning car, but its staying with Seinfeld was apparently not meant to be.
Once the EPA got wind of it, it had to be given back.

Jerry Seinfeld was forced to give back his Mercedes
Besides his stand-up and iconic sitcom, the thing that Jerry Seinfeld is probably best known for is his love of automobiles.
Like many celebrities, he’s a fan of nice cars.
He’s been linked to cars such as the 2004 Porsche Carrera GT, a 1971 Fiat 124 Special T, and a Subaru WRX STI Type RA.
But a particular Mercedes also featured in his car collection, albeit for a short time.

The star bought himself a 1997 W210 Mercedes E-Class, and it’s easy to see why it would have appealed to him.
This car started out as an E 420, with a respectable 275HP and taking 6.7 seconds to reach 60MPH.
But Florida-based tuner RENNtech put it through $150,000 worth of modifications on the approval of Mercedes-Benz.
Among other new additions, widened wheel arches and a dual stainless steel exhaust were added, and this car became a whole other beast.

The new and improved Mercedes now had 420HP and could reach 60MPH in 4.6 seconds.
And the car went straight to Seinfeld, who was making about $1 million a week at the time.
He was happy to have it, but it wasn’t in his possession for long.
The EPA wasn’t happy about this car
Somebody apparently reported Seinfeld to the EPA and he was forced to give it back to Mercedes-Benz.
The amount of modifications on the car meant that it wasn’t homologated in the US.

This means that the car wasn’t approved for sale in the US.
As a result, Mercedes-Benz sold it in Mexico.
However, YouTuber Ed Bolian brought it back to the US for a test drive.
Admittedly, there were limitations, as he had a police escort following him down the closed off highway, and he wasn’t allowed to put the V8 engine to the full test.
Despite this, he was still impressed with what he saw.

“In terms of the way the suspension is working, the way the engine sounds, the way it idles…
“It is as well built and as perfectly a Mercedes car as you would want out of a 90s car.
“And I am absolutely loving it,” Bolian said.
