This popular Kansas mechanic took a look at the Breaking Bad finale’s Cadillac DeVille and didn’t even know where to start with it, as the legendary TV prop turns out to be just as chaotic in real life as it was on screen.
The Kansas-based Car Wizard got the real Cadillac used in the final episode of Breaking Bad into his shop after it arrived in classic ‘hooptie’ condition.
The car, owned by Tyler from Hoovie’s Garage, was bought for its showbiz background but showed up with a long list of issues that made it more museum piece than daily driver.
Instead of restoring it to perfection, the goal was simple: make the DeVille safe, drivable, and still recognizably good enough for Heisenberg.

Taking a look at the Breaking Bad finale’s Cadillac DeVille
When the Car Wizard took a look at his friend Tyler Hoover’s new car, he didn’t know what to do with the ride that had once been Walter White’s.
The first thing the mechanic noticed was that the DeVille wore its age like a badge.
The paint was badly faded, the clear coat was seriously peeling, and the trim pieces were starting to come loose.

It had dents and dings that make it look exactly like the kind of car Walter White would have turned up in, and the missing passenger-side mirror is actually correct for the era.
Even the official Barrett-Jackson paperwork was still displayed on the windshield, confirming this was the actual car used in the show.

Underneath all the sun-damaged body, though, the car was structurally solid with no serious rust, helped by its time in the Southwest.
Inside, the issues kept coming: the dashboard had deteriorated, the steering wheel was heavily cracked, and the radio knobs had disappeared.
Still, the velour seats were nice enough to feel like sitting on a couch, and the overall cabin had that unmistakable land yacht vibe that clearly suits Heisenberg.

This Kansas Mechanic found himself overwhelmed
Under the hood sat a big block Cadillac V8 engine with a snazzy Quadrajet carburetor, a setup the Car Wizard actually respected for its reliability when he tuned it properly.
The DeVille ran and drove, but oil seeped from the valve cover gaskets and dripped down the engine; it also had multiple transmission leaks, including from the pan gasket and, worryingly, in the speedometer drive area.
The suspension needed attention, too, and the muffler had a hole and was starting to fall apart, meaning it fit the DeVille’s rough-around-the-edges reputation perfectly.
The biggest safety issue, though, was clearly the tires because the date codes show they were made in 2006, making them dangerously old and prone to failure.
The Car Wizard found himself slightly overwhelmed by all the work this superstar Cadillac DeVille actually needed.
But once those are replaced and the leaks are handled, this Breaking Bad legend will finally be ready to cruise around in the desert for totally legal adventures once again.
