This Lamborghini driver added a rooftop fuel tank to his supercar to improve driving range.
And he did so to attempt to, not just get more miles, but to achieve the impossible – unlimited driving range
It’s an experiment that has been going viral online.
And it has met with some very divided opinions.

Lamborghini transports a massive fuel tank – on its roof
This is certainly one of the stranger supercar experiments that you will ever see.
Because it involves a Lamborghini and a DIY project for experimental, unlimited driving range.
In a viral Reddit post by brilliant31508, was something quite bizarre.
It appeared to be a Lamborghini Huracán – nothing overly shocking there.
But what was shocking was what was strapped to the roof of the Huracán.
It was an enormous DIY fuel tank.

A person passing the Lamborghini snapped an epic picture of the experiment.
It shows the supercar being fueled mid-drive on the highway.
There was also a connecting fuel pipe from the rooftop fuel tank to the gas tank.
In a somewhat humorous touch, the post was titled:
“Would this extend the range by any decent amount?”
The experiment was met with much criticism
As you’ve probably guessed by now, this experiment has a lot of divided opinion.
One person actually pointed out the potential legal issues surrounding the fuel tank.
“That’s a 250-gallon cube. However, that’s not a legal gas container, so the penalty per gallon of fuel not stored in a proper container may make this really unaffordable”, the comment pointed out.
Most criticized the driver for the danger of adding such a heavy tank to the roof of a car.
“If it were full of gas, it would add about 1,500lbs to the weight of the car, probably bottoming out the suspension or caving in the roof,” one comment pointed out.
“Wouldn’t that much weight crush the Lambo?” was the question posed by another user.
A couple of people actually questioned why a trailer wasn’t used instead of a rooftop fuel tank.

“A trailer would be way, way smarter. Also, having the fuel in smaller containers. It would mean:
All/most of the load would be behind the car, reducing drag by a huge amount. By using multiple smaller containers, you would limit the problems caused by slosh,” was the advice offered by another comment.
“Would it be better as a trailer, though? Then it is just the weight and the drag would be reduced significantly…?” another pointed out.
The very large majority of people agreed that the roof would most likely be crushed trying to support a full tank.
Even if it didn’t crush the roof, the weight would likely completely ruin any chance of aerodynamics.
Nonetheless, it is one of the more interesting experiments we have ever seen.
However, we’re not sure if we’d use a Lamborghini to support such a large fuel tank.
