The upgraded Lamborghini Huracán is ready to hit the road in 2023, and it’ll be available with a hybrid unit for the first time in the brand’s history.

Obviously, everyone wants to know how many cylinders it will have and the bad news is we don’t know yet.

Why? Because Lambo won’t tell us.

The brand simply said – and this is an actual quote: “it will have more than 6 [cylinders] but less than 12”.

The company is gradually restructuring its line-up of models ahead of the launch of the brand’s first fully-electric vehicle, something it promised to do by the end of the decade.

In the meantime, the almighty Aventador has officially been discontinued, sailing into the sunset with a swan song version called Ultimae, and replaced with the 808-hp Sián supercar.

After the Huracán, the Urus SUV will also be electrified.

This is a big deal for Lambo, because the Huracán is the brand’s best-selling supercar by a considerable margin, and the Urus is the company’s best-selling vehicle ever, with more than 20,000 units delivered in just four years.

We know that the V12 is gone (sigh) and sooner or later the V10 will also be retired and then almost certainly replaced with a turbocharged / supercharged and hybridized V6 or V8.

Speaking of hybrid V6s, Lamborghini will develop the upgraded Huracán with the Ferrari 296 GTB in mind, because that it is inevitably going to be its direct competitor.

The Ferrari produces 819 hp, so we can reasonably expect a similar power output from the Lambo.

There’s more good news. Lamborghini’s Chief Engineer said the company intends to do what BMW has done and create a bespoke sound for its electric cars.

It won’t be the same as a hollowing V12 or a roaring V10, but it will still be distinctive and unique.

Let’s hope so.
