Lamborghini has said it will ‘most likely’ decide on whether the upcoming Lamborghini Lanzador will be released as an EV or hybrid.
The luxury carmaker teased its first-ever EV – the Lamborghini Lanzador – at Monterey Car Week in 2023.
But since then, it’s been a bit of a bumpy road for the proposed all-electric.
Now, Lamborghini Chief Technology Officer Rouven Mohr has said a decision about the car’s future is yet to be made.

Lamborghini will decide on whether the Lanzador is released as an EV or hybrid by the end of the year
The Lamborghini Lanzador was unveiled to much fanfare in 2023, but a couple of years on, it seems as though the carmaker is having second thoughts about electrification.
In June, Lamborghini said it plans to keep making gas-powered cars for ‘as long as possible’.
These comments were followed by Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann announcing an all-electric version of the Urus had been pushed back in favor of a next-generation plug-in hybrid model.

Lamborghini then said that the Lanzador might not be launching as an EV after all.
In a more recent interview, Rouven Mohr said that a decision had yet to be made on whether the car will come with an EV or hybrid powertrain.
But went on to say that a decision would likely be made by the end of 2025.
“We are observing the market trends, and if I look at the biggest markets that are important for us at the moment, there is not the push in the EV direction,” Mohr said.
“Especially now, for us, there is a change in the mindset, and it’s clear that we cannot customize a car for every market.
“So we have to be very careful which choice we make for the entire world, and this decision is not yet taken. It’s right. We will make it by the end of the year most likely.”
Lambo isn’t the only carmaker seemingly having second thoughts about EVs
Lamborghini isn’t the only carmaker that seems to be having a change of heart when it comes to electrification.

Earlier this month, McLaren CEO Nick Collins said the marque is in no rush to build an EV supercar.
Much like Lambo, McLarens seems to think there’s still plenty of life left in the internal combustion engine.
“Unmistakably, internal combustion is going to play the majority role of this brand for a really long period of time,” Collins said during an interview.
“Could I envision an EV at some point? Yes. Are we in a hurry to do one? No.”
