The largest parking lot in the world is West Edmonton Mall in Alberta, Canada, and it has room for a staggering 20,000 vehicles.
While there’s some tough competition from other massive parking lots, such as the Disney World Magic Kingdom and Universal Studios, ultimately there can only be one winner.
And it turns out that the winner is a random mall in Canada.
The West Edmonton Mall parking lot has enough room for 20,000 cars as well as an overspill area that can accommodate around 10,000 more – so chances are, regardless of how busy it is, you’ll find a spot.

West Edmonton Mall is one of the largest in the world
It’s probably safe to assume that until now you’ve given very little thought to where the biggest parking lot in the world was, or how many cars it holds.
You’ve probably never wondered about the largest gas station, or the longest car wash, either – but Buc-ees claims both titles.
And, when it comes to super-sized parking lots, it’s Canada’s West Edmonton Mall that comes out on top.
West Edmonton Mall first opened its doors back in September 1981.
The huge shopping and entertainment complex spans a whopping 490,000 square meters (5.3 million square feet) and is home to more than 800 stores and retailers.
It’s crammed with numerous attractions and entertainment options such as a bowling alley, escape rooms, adventure golf, and even a water park.
And if all that shopping, swimming and bowling has got you feeling hungry, then there’s more than 100 dining options to choose from, as well as not one, but two on-site hotels.
The mall is the second largest shopping mall in North America and joint 14th largest in the entire world.
The largest parking lot holds 20,000 and there’s an overspill area
With so much going, and with 32 million visitors per year, West Edmonton Mall needs a big parking lot.
Fortunately, it’s the Guinness World Record holder for ‘Largest car park’ and is roughly big enough to hold 1,400 average American homes.
Its stock standard parking lot can hold 20,000 cars and if that happens to be full there’s an overspill area which can fit another 10,000 more.
While that may sound like an awful lot, the mall gets a lot of daily visitors – between 90,000 and 200,000 shoppers each day, depending on the day and season, of course.
Interestingly, it’s world’s largest parking lot isn’t the only record-breaking title the mall holds, it’s also got the largest full-service in-mall dealership, the world’s largest indoor wave pool, and the world’s largest indoor lake.
