When you’re as popular and famous as LeBron James people might be tempted to use your name ‘in vain’.

That’s what happened this week, when a dealership congratulated LeBron for buying a Bugatti Veyron from them.

At which point LeBron had to call them out…because he doesn’t own a Bugatti Veyron.

Last week, a car dealer in Riverside, California, Effortless Motors, shared an Instagram story with the picture of a Veyron being loaded onto a truck and a caption that leaves very little room for doubt.

“Congratulations @KingJames for trusting Effortless Motors,” the caption read.

Now that’s pretty unequivocal, but also, apparently, not true.

Two days later, LeBron James responded on his Instagram.

“LIARS!! I don’t know y’all and I don’t even have that car. CLOUT CHASERS,” he wrote.

What’s going to happen now?

Effortless Motors later apologized in an Instagram post.

In the clip, which featured Shaquille O’Neal by the way, the director of Effortless Motors blamed an intern, which prompted exactly the sort of feedback you’d expect in the comments.

“[It’s] always an intern,” a user wrote, sarcastically.

So what’s going to happen now? The short answer is, probably nothing.

But this is one of those cases that might end up in court because LeBron could retaliate with something like a cease-and-desist letter, if he wanted.

This could cost the car dealer in question time and money in legal fees.

The car collection of LeBron James

LeBron James doesn’t own a Bugatti Veyron, even though as the NBA’s highest-scoring player and highest-earning star he could definitely afford it.

Having said that, he does own a long list of rare and valuable cars, including a Porsche 918 Spyder, which he uses relatively frequently.

But, clearly, not a Bugatti Veyron.
