Legendary Formula 1 racer Lewis Hamilton says he might need to ‘cancel’ his F1 commitments when GTA VI comes out next year.

Lewis Hamilton’s debut year at Ferrari hasn’t been the successful switch that he hoped for.

But instead of fighting it out in 2026-27, Sir Lewis might be hanging up his red jacket.

Instead of competing in Formula 1, he might ‘stop’ working altogether as the dawn of Grand Theft Auto VI beckons.

Lewis Hamilton might favor GTA VI over F1

We know that the F1 stars love gaming; Yuki Tsunoda especially wowed the Supercar Blondie team in London with his Mario Kart skills.

Max Verstappen is no stranger to games either, often heading to streaming platform Twitch to showcase his sim-racing skills.

But Lewis Hamilton also loves picking up a controller.

Taking to the stage before the Belgian Grand Prix, the Ferrari driver admitted to having a huge liking of Call of Duty, Assassin’s Creed, and Gran Turismo.

And, of course, GTA.

So much so that when GTA VI comes out, he joked about ‘stopping’ work altogether to grind the game.

“I’m dying for the new Grand Theft Auto to come out… GTA VI. That’s the one I’m waiting for,” he said on stage at the Ferrari fan zone during the Belgium Grand Prix.

“I’ll have to cancel all my work when that game comes out.”

Is Hamilton really going anywhere?

Well, first things first, GTA VI is supposedly set to release in 2026.

But having already taken years of development and faced multiple delays, Rockstar Games might actually never release the game, which would make Lewis’ joke null and void.

“The length of time it’s taking Rockstar to release GTA VI, he won’t need to cancel any work commitments by the time it comes out…” one fan joked.

Still, Lewis’ future isn’t solidified to be with Ferrari for the 2026/27 season.

Rumors have surfaced that he might quit the team if Christian Horner is appointed as Team Principal.

It was originally a fan theory given the two are modern F1 powerhouses.

However, reports soon emerged that, despite the obvious flaws and shortcomings behind the doors of Ferrari HQ, Horner would not be a match for Lewis Hamilton.

Still, Ferrari stans shouldn’t panic as Lewis Hamilton has been very vocal about getting the F1 car up to speed for the next season, which all but guarantees that he will be behind the wheel again.

Even if he is frightening Charles Leclerc with his driving.
