Microcar manufacturer Ligier has just set a record at the iconic Nürburgring circuit.
And it is a record that not many manufacturers would be bragging about.
The French minicar manufacturer took to the German racing complex earlier this week.
But it now proudly boasts an extremely unique record for the track.

Ligier takes to the Nurburgring
Okay, so what exactly has Ligier done that is so newsworthy?
Well, it might actually surprise you once you find out.
In case you were wondering, Ligier is quite a unique company.
And that is because the French firm is actually a microcar manufacturer.
The brand itself was founded by former French racing driver Guy Ligier in 1968.

For the majority of people, the brand is most famous for its previous involvement in Formula 1.
Indeed, the Ligier marque competed in the championship for two decades (from 1976 to 1996).
Throughout its history, the brand has been well-known for creating microcars.
But it is the latest creation that has managed to capture the imagination.
Brand sets unique record
Ligier’s latest offering is a diesel-powered quadricycle called the JS50.
The JS50 is notable for not being a conventional car but a ‘voiture sans permis’.
This is a unique category of two-seaters that allow French motorists to take to the roads without a license.
It allows them to do so from as young as 14 years old.
Recently, a pair of French journalists – Martin Coulomb and Nicolas Meunier – drove the JS50.

They specifically drove the JS50 car from Paris all the way to the Nürburgring.
And the pair completed the 310-mile journey using a single tank of diesel.
Frugality aside, the JS50 set another unique record when it actually took to the track.
And that is because it is officially the slowest car ever to lap the Nürburgring.

Coulomb and Meunier completed a lap of the track in 28 minutes, 25.8 seconds.
This, according to the company, ‘hinted at [its] glorious history in Formula 1’.
In all fairness, the JS50 is limited to a top speed of just 28mph.
The marque also tested two EV-powered versions of the JS50 whilst it had the chance.
The slower EV option completed its lap in 27 minutes, 55.6 seconds.
This makes it almost half a minute faster than the diesel version – despite having the same top speed.
The L7e quadricycle, with a top speed of 47mph, completed its lap in 19 minutes, 53.4 seconds.
Score one for French motoring.
