This YouTuber bought a damaged Ford Mustang GT for $15,000 and discovered it was hiding a $20,000 surprise.

ScrapLife Lee is no stranger to an ambitious car project, and he didn’t hesitate to take on a wrecked Mustang GT from a salvage auction.

He bought the car primarily because of what he suspected was a hidden turbo kit.

Although the car was in a sorry state on the outside, the kit had held up remarkably well.

The $15,000 Ford Mustang GT with a $20,000 surprise

YouTuber ScrapLife Lee has taken on his fair share of car challenges in the past – some were also from a salvage auction.

The Maryland resident previously found a $30,000 surprise sitting inside a salvaged Corvette.

He also took a chance on a cheap $8k Dodge Viper, which had one part that made it worthwhile.

In the case of this Mustang GT, its turbo kit was the real selling point.

Lee spotted an intercooler pipe in one of the auction pictures and that sold him on the purchase.

Given that the car was busted up and missing wheels, $15,000 may have initially sounded like a bad investment.

But thinking in the long term, Lee was confident he would make his money back.

Upon hoping the hood, he was greeted with a reassuring sight.

“As far as I can tell, nothing is missing, damaged, or in bad shape at all.

“There’s the fuel pressure regulator, after-market fuel rails, massive intercooler pipe.

“Everything’s super nice!” he said.

Even looking underneath the car didn’t give Lee any buyers remorse.

“Boost leak or not, I can’t believe that none of this went missing!” he remarked.

Aftermarket axles, aftermarket drive shaft, and Mickey Thompson tires all add up to one seriously impressive undercarriage.

What was he going to do with this car?

The ‘master plan’ was to take out the engine, the transmission, and the twin turbo kit.

The rest of the car would be sold off to recover as much of the $15,000 as possible.
