A man built a portable all-in-one PlayStation 5, complete with its own screen, and it’s so good that people have been urging Sony to hire him.

Sony launched the PS5 in November 2020, followed by the slightly more expensive Slim model in 2023.

At its launch, the console was a total sell-out, and getting your hands on one was no mean feat.

But years on, you can pick up a used PlayStation 5 for relatively cheap – YouTuber Tera got a broken model for just $148 and decided to fix it up and create a portable PS5.

The DIY all-in-one portable PS5 is an absolute triumph

The YouTuber had previously had a go at making an all-in-one portable PS5 but eventually realized it wasn’t as portable as he’d hoped, as it was far too big and heavy.

But rather than give up, he gave it another try – this time using a much smaller motherboard than in the previous version.

His first major hurdle was ensuring his DIY console didn’t overheat.

He initially used a basic CPU cooler but found that it wasn’t strong enough to keep the machine cool, and eventually made his own custom fan using a motor and 3D-printed blades fixed onto an aluminum plate base.

With the cooling issues sorted, the YouTuber then got to work adding some extra bits of tech to turn it into a fully all-in-one device.

Firstly, he wired up a 15.6-inch screen, opting for a smaller model than his previous attempt.

He then gave the PS5 its own internal power supply, which it can run on for around 30 minutes, meaning it can be used on the go.

With all these additional components, the device is obviously bigger than the original PlayStation 5, so he 3D printed a case that looked a little like a briefcase with a small handle on top so it can be easily carried around.

He then assembled the portable PS5 and gave a quick demonstration of it in action – and it was impressive stuff.

People have called on Sony to hire the YouTuber

In fact, the finished product was so impressive that folks called on Sony to hire the YouTuber, while others hoped the tech giant would take note and start building a similar model.

“Sony should hire you at this point,” one person said.

“I hope Sony takes notice because so many people would buy a portable unit like this,” another commented.

“Sony could learn a thing or two from you,” a third wrote.

While someone else said the DIY device was ‘what Sony should have built’ – high praise indeed.
