For many people, owning a Porsche 918 Spyder would be a dream come true, so when one car lover managed to get his hands on a fire-damaged Porsche, he refused to give up on it.
Porsche released the 918 Spyder in 2013 and built just 918 units.
The hybrid vehicles sold out in super quick time, and if you were hoping to get your hands on one these days, you’ll be looking at paying up to $2 million.
However, car enthusiast and YouTuber Tavarish managed to find one going cheaply, so he wasted no time in snapping it up, but it came with a pretty huge catch.

He was told the Porsche 918 Spyder would be ‘impossible’ to repair
The poor old Porsche 918 Spyder had been involved in a dramatic fuel fire in Canada.
The fire was so severe that the car’s owner didn’t even attempt to fix it, and instead, the Porsche was left parked for more than a decade.

Until Tavarish decided to see if he could get it back on the road.
To say the car was in a bad way really doesn’t do justice to just how wrecked it really was.
For starters, the entire rear of the 918 had to be removed, the driver’s door was basically melted shut, the epoxy resin had burned off, and the rocker panel was toast.
In fact, the car was so badly damaged that Porsche reportedly told Tavarish it would be ‘impossible’ to fix.
But that wasn’t enough to put him off, and after taking a closer look at the car, the YouTuber found that many parts were still salvageable and usable, including the floor and main structure of what’s left of the vehicle, its hub, rotor, and springs, and parts of that driver’s door.
Here’s how much the repair could cost
Despite the car’s condition, Tavarish was confident he could get it back up and running and started off the major restoration project.
However, he admitted it wouldn’t be a cheap fix.

In the video, he revealed that he paid just $145,000 for the fire-damaged 918 Spyder.
But, of course, the costs didn’t end there.
If he wants to get the car back on the road, Tavarish will need to spend big on a new 12V battery, costing $13,000, a bunch of new harnesses ranging from $1,000 to $10,000, and the rear carbon subframe that would set him back a whopping $155,000.
In all, he said he’d need to spend around $567,000 to fix the Porsche, which sounds like a lot, but given that the car could be worth upwards of $2 million, it seems like a solid investment.
