YouTuber tests Apple and Amazon refurbished iPhones

Have you ever wondered what the best option for buying a refurbished iPhone is?

Some think it’s better to buy refurbished iPhones directly from Apple.

While others say going to Amazon is a better bet.

Well, wonder no more – because one YouTuber has decided to find out.

Dion Schuddeboom is a tech-focused YouTuber.

In his latest video, the YouTuber compared two refurbished iPhone 12 Pro models.

One was purchased from the Apple Certified Refurbished center.

And the other was sourced from Amazon Renewed.

Official manufacturer provides perfect experience

First up is going through Apple; this is considered the ‘like new’ experience.

Apple’s refurbishment process is much more intensive, essentially providing a brand-new device in a different box.

This is because the condition is almost impossible to tell from a brand-new phone.

The refurbished option comes in a unique ‘Apple Certified Refurbished’ white box with a brand-new Lightning cable and official documentation.

And the best part of it all is the warranty.

Because it’s from Apple, the refurbed iPhone comes with a full one-year manufacturer warranty.

It’s also eligible for AppleCare+.

But the one downside is the price – because it costs only around 15 percent less than the original price.

Can it be worth going with Amazon?

So, how did Dion find the Amazon Renewed experience?

In the video, the Amazon phone arrived with minor cosmetic imperfections, including tiny scratches on the frame and screen.

The battery health came in at a reasonable 87 percent – Amazon guarantees at least 80 percent.

Unlike Apple, though, the packaging was a generic brown cardboard box.

But it does come with a 90-day Amazon Renewed guarantee.

This allows for a replacement or refund if you’re not happy.

The single-biggest benefit, as you might have guessed, is the price.

Buying from Amazon saves the buyer, on average, around $100-$150.

But what was Dion’s overall verdict?

You’ll be delighted to hear that there wasn’t really a bad option.

The official Apple route provides peace of mind and a ‘perfect’ phone.

However, Amazon Renewed is also an excellent choice, which is especially beneficial for those who are more budget-conscious.

If you can tolerate minor cosmetic issues and wear and tear, that is.

So, there you have it – two beneficial – albeit different – options for buying iPhones.
