A man from North Idaho has revealed that he is switching back to gas after just a year with his Ford EV truck.

He initially purchased an all-electric Ford Lightning to be a part of his power system as he lives completely off-grid.

But after using the EV for a year he’s had enough.

So much so that he’s giving up the vehicle for good.

It’s no secret that electric vehicles are all the rage – with almost every car brand offering electric motors one way or another – Ferrari are even making the jump this year and releasing an EV.

But, as with any electrical appliance – issues can sometimes arise.

For instance, there are Tesla cars with charging ability that have seen better days, and this Model Y landed the owner a hefty bill.

Now, this auto owner has revealed that the jump to an all-electric truck wasn’t the best fit for him.

The Ford F-150 Lightning was purchased to be part of a power system

However, the pairing wasn’t meant to be.

The 2023 F-150 lightning boasts plenty of flashy features and has even been labelled as a ‘shockingly good electric pickup truck’ by fans online.

And, some aspects were beneficial to the owner including the easy-clean interior and heated seats.

But the practicality of what they wanted from the EV just didn’t match up.

See, the reason behind purchasing the truck was to power their home during the winter months when solar power just wasn’t enough.

It did have some perks

And it actually worked – powering their home for 156 hours, with him even comparing the capability and saying: “This truck on paper is actually a pretty killer deal.”

However, they ran into some rather impractical problems that were just too much to ignore.

The battery on the EV was draining in cold conditions, forcing them to house the truck indoors.

A big issue, though, was keeping the truck full of beans.

Think about it – living in the sticks probably means that EV charging ports are few and far between.

So, finding a charging port was an arduous enough task – the owner had to hang out at a Brewery to juice up the Ford.

They weren’t all that impressed with the range either.

Better times ahead with a different Ford

But all is not lost – after the year-long period with the F-150 EV – the man has now swapped it for another Ford powerhouse.

The replacement is a gas-powered 2024 F-150 to suit the owner and his wife better.

So, maybe if you live fully off-grid the 2023 version perhaps would not be the best choice for you.

But the 2024 version could be added to your list of 2025 buys.
