In 1997, a Porsche 911 Targa was stolen an hour after delivery, but in a Hollywood-esque twist, the car is now back in the hands of the original owner.

YouTuber Mark McCann shared this epic story in a recent video, and it’s a real roller coaster ride.

It has everything that you’ll expect to find in an action movie, complete with a multi-vehicle car chase.

Fast forward to 2025, and the car is now back in the YouTuber’s hands, although the path wasn’t easy at all.

There was an epic car chase

Mark recounts the story of his supercar, a Porsche 911 (993) Targa, which he purchased at the age of 23.

He emphasized that this was not a car given to him, but rather the result of years of side hustles and saving on top of his 9-to-5 job.

He had meticulously chosen the car’s specs: Zenith Blue paint, light gray leather sport seats, and 17-inch Speedline split rims.

Unfortunately, less than an hour after taking delivery, the car was stolen from his parents’ driveway while he briefly went inside the house.

A dramatic chase ensued, involving Mark, his father, and his brother.

His father and brother managed to catch up to the Porsche first, ramming into the rear of the brand-new Porsche and causing it to crash.

When the thief realized that his attempts to reverse out of the situation were futile, he ran away on foot.

Unluckily for him, he was running straight into the path of Mark, who was still in pursuit in his family’s car.

According to Mark, he did what anyone else would do in his situation: try to run him over.

The thief managed to dive out of the way, and this devolved into a foot chase, although not before Mark crashed his family’s car as well.

After a brief chase, the thief was apprehended, but the damage was done; Mark spent the rest of his 23rd birthday in the police station, giving statements.

After months of negotiation with insurance, all the damages were covered, allowing the car to be restored.

He was determined to find his 1997 Porsche 911 Targa

While he did manage to enjoy the Porsche 911 Targa that he saved up so hard for, he eventually sold the car.

Over the years, the Porsche changed hands several times.

However, after Mark’s father passed away, he reflected upon his decision to sell the car.

“This car is probably the closest I’ll ever get to him through cars,” he said.

Determined to reunite with the car, he used resources like CarVertical and the Porsche Owners Club to track the car’s history.

After extensive research, he discovered it had been well-maintained and mostly stored off-road by a collector.

He eventually found it listed for sale at Cameron Sports Cars, matching the original color, spec, mileage, and even registration.

Though the car had undergone restoration and engine work, it retained all its original charm.

After negotiations, Mark successfully reacquired the car, with the dealer even removing their profit to make the reunion possible.

For Mark, the Porsche represents not just a car, but cherished family memories and a connection to his late father.
