A YouTuber decided to peel the bright orange wrap off his cheap Bentley Continental GT and see what secrets the luxury coupe had been hiding for years.

The car had been purchased at auction for just £5,100, or roughly $6,700, making it one of the most affordable ways imaginable to get behind the wheel of a grand touring icon.

But the bargain price came with plenty of unknowns, including questionable wheels, tinted windows, and that unmistakable ginger-colored wrap covering the entire body.

This made it unclear whether the car was a hidden gem, or a very expensive mistake.

The Bentley Continental GT is usually in a more sophisticated color

The car in question was a first-generation Bentley Continental GT, a model famous for its powerful W12 engine and opulent interior.

Normally these cars sell for many tens of thousands of dollars, but the example purchased by YouTuber Shifting Metal had clearly lived a complicated life.

Before any serious mechanical work could begin, the team wanted to deal with the car’s unusual appearance.

The entire body had been wrapped in a bright orange vinyl that clashed with the Bentley’s otherwise elegant character.

However, removing wraps can be risky, because they sometimes hide damaged paint.

In the worst case scenario, the adhesive can actually pull paint away as the vinyl comes off.

Armed with heat guns and plenty of patience, the host and detailing specialist Charlie slowly began peeling away the wrap panel by panel.

At first, things looked promising.

The vinyl lifted to reveal the car’s original black paint, exactly as Bentley intended.

Some sections came off easily in large sheets, while other areas that had baked in the sun for years snapped into frustrating little pieces.

The removal process took nearly two full days

Along the way, the team dealt with brittle wrap fragments, sticky adhesive residue, and sore fingertips from hours of pulling vinyl.

Heat guns helped soften the material, while cleaning chemicals were used to remove leftover glue.

When the final pieces were removed, the cheap Bentley Continental GT finally looked like the refined luxury machine it was meant to be.

The paint was not perfect, but it was far better than expected.

Aside from some swirl marks, glue residue, and a few minor damaged spots, the bodywork was largely intact.

This was good news, but there were still issues to tackle.

A small section of paint had lifted near the mirror, the rear bumper would likely need a respray, and a long key scratch had cut through part of the paintwork.

But on the bright side, none of the problems appeared catastrophic.

For such a cheap Bentley, the result felt like a major win.

According to the YouTuber, suspension repairs and new wheels were on the menu, and the budget Bentley’s comeback story was only just getting started.
