Full Self Driving (FSD) from Tesla has been a lightning rod for debate, but one recent real-world test offered a fresh perspective.
An analyst from Morgan Stanley took the system on a 1,400-mile round-trip journey and came away impressed with what he experienced.
The trip stretched from New York to Michigan and back, with the majority of driving handled by the car itself.
His review highlights both the promise of the technology and its potential to reshape how people think about long-distance travel.

A much-needed boost for Tesla
The analyst, Adam Jonas, drove a 2021 Model Y equipped with Tesla’s supervised Full Self Driving (FSD) software.
According to a recent report, Jonas stated that the system took care of 99 percent of the driving duties, allowing him to keep his hands off the wheel and feet off the pedals for nearly 12 hours of the trip.
He described the experience as ‘a real game changer’ that is difficult to fully grasp without trying it firsthand.
The carmaker’s Supercharger network also earned praise for helping make the long-haul journey more efficient and less stressful.

Jonas’s positive remarks come at a complicated time for the carmaker.
Tesla’s presence in Europe is getting increasingly shaky, being outsold not only by European stalwarts like Volkswagen, but also by Chinese companies that you may not even have heard of.
Financially, the automaker has also faced challenges, with stock prices retreating rapidly earlier this year, although you would still make a healthy profit if you’d invested in the carmaker five years ago.
Yet, Musk’s recent purchase of over $1 billion in Tesla stock boosted investor confidence, sending shares to their highest value since January.
Full Self Driving remains a polarizing concept
Meanwhile, autonomous driving technology remains polarizing.
Critics cite safety concerns and uncertainty about whether artificial intelligence can reliably match human reflexes.
In Austin, Texas, regulations have already adjusted Robotaxi operations to require human supervision from the driver’s seat, rather than the passenger seat.

Still, it’s not all doom and gloom for Tesla’s Full Self-Driving, as it took China’s toughest test yet and outperformed all its rivals.
Tesla drivers also continue to share success stories, like this Iowa man who took his Model Y on an 800-mile road trip to Colorado to test out the FSD function.
For drivers curious about trying it themselves, Tesla currently offers FSD at a one-time cost of $8,000 or a subscription model priced at $99 per month.
