A man spotted a ‘Ferrari’ supercar while driving home and shared the image on social media, but he was stumped by the model, and was equally surprised to learn it was actually an American sports car.

Seeing a Ferrari supercar out in the wild is always a great feeling, given how rare they are in everyday life and how brilliant the cars are.

Reddit user bkhang89 posted an image of a car with the Ferrari name on the r/whatisthiscar SubReddit, and asked what model it was.

What he probably didn’t expect was to learn that this wasn’t actually a Ferrari at all.

What was the car pretending to be a Ferrari?

People in the comments replied quickly to dispel the myth of what the supercar appeared to be.

It was, in fact, a Pontiac Solstice, with the Italian supercar company’s name applied to the rear.

Those who looked at the other side would have seen that the Solstice name was still on the car.

Others dubbed it the Ferrontiac Pontiarri, a tongue-in-cheek mashup of the two manufacturers’ names.

When you look up what a Pontiac Solstice looks like off the production line, it couldn’t be much further from a Ferrari.

Saw this Ferrari on the way home. I’m usually pretty good with knowing what car it is, but this one has me stumped.

The Solstice is a small sports car built from 2005 to 2010, with a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine.

It was also available with a 2.4-liter inline-four naturally aspirated engine as well.

So it certainly doesn’t have the power of an Italian supercar.

Pontiac models pretending to be supercars is nothing new

This idea of an American sports car pretending to be an Italian supercar is not a new one.

In fact, what is hilarious is how many people have turned their Pontiacs into a Ferrari.

Quite a few people have taken the Pontiac Fiero and turned it into a Ferrari Testarossa.

Body kits help to give it the Testarossa look, and at first glance, it is quite convincing.

But the closer you look, the sooner you realize it isn’t what it says on the tin.

Based on this Reddit image, all the owner of the Solstice has done is slap a different name on the rear.

A Ferrari Solstice certainly sounds like an interesting car.

However, we think that most people would rather have the real thing instead.
