This British car lover and his friend stumbled across a massive cache of retro abandoned cars while on a bike ride, and they decided to investigate further on Google Maps to see how long they’ve been there.

Rob Case-Green and his friend Richard Catchpole were taking in the rare British sun on a bike ride in a wooded forest area in Surrey, UK, when they stumbled across a total goldmine for any classic car fan.

Parked on a grassy knoll on the side of a forest track, the two British cyclists found a proper little graveyard of classic European cars which had been quietly rusting away for who knows how long.

Instead of just enjoying the sight and moving on, Case-Green decided to investigate further on Google Maps to unlock the secrets of the surprising car graveyard in the unassuming forest.

Car lover stumbles across a forest of retro abandoned cars

When you’re a classic car lover, sights like the one Rob Case-Green and his friend Richard Catchpole saw are enough to stop you in your tracks.

While enjoying the sun on a bike ride in Surrey, the two men came across what can only be described as a graveyard for retro European cars on a grassy bank outside someone’s house.

The two men found various classic European cars abandoned, including a silver Peugeot 505 sedan from the 1980s and a green Peugeot 404 or possibly a 504 that could date back as far as the 1960s.

But for Case-Green, the real star of the show was an old boxy red Volvo 240 estate wagon from the late ’70s to early ’90s.

“I stopped because it’s a Volvo 240 and I love [my daughter’s] one,” Case-Green told Supercar Blondie.

Rob Case-Green is a fan of retro cars himself, as the proud owner of a retro military green Land Rover, and he’s passed on his love of classic cars to his daughter, Josie, who owns her own white Volvo 240 station wagon.

There is no doubt that Rob would stop for a sight like the one he discovered.

The investigation goes to Google Maps

Not satisfied with just seeing the European car graveyard in person, the car lover took to Google Maps to see how long the vehicles had been there.

He virtually traveled down forest paths he had only cycled down in real life just that morning to find the same spot where he struck gold.

And he found the old cars again.

According to Google Maps archived pictures, there are no records of the car graveyard until 2019, when it appears on Google Street View. Before that, it’s just a big clump of tangled trees, leaves, and bushes.

One thing’s for sure, Rob and Richard were the perfect people to stumble across the retro abandoned cars, because they could give these European classics the respect – and excitement – they deserve.
