A Nissan Patrol racing on the German Autobahn in a high-speed test raises one simple question: how fast is too fast for a 2.5-ton SUV?
At first glance, it sounds like a terrible idea, and that’s because it is.
After all, this isn’t the kind of car you’d normally associate with high-speed runs, let alone pushing past 125mph.
However, that’s exactly what made this test so intriguing.

Driving on the Autobahn is always a thrilling experience
Originally imported from Oman, the Nissan Patrol had already lived a wild life before arriving in Europe.

Built to produce an eye-watering 1,300hp, it had previously been tested on an airstrip, where it reportedly exceeded 300 km/h (186mph).
Still, taking it onto Germany’s notorious Autobahn was a completely different challenge, especially after lowering the suspension and swapping out off-road tires for road-friendly rubber.

From the moment the journey began, things felt unpredictable.
The Patrol, weighing around 2.5 tons, wasn’t exactly known for its handling.
In fact, the YouTuber openly described it as ‘the worst handling car’ in his collection.

Soft suspension, heavy weight, and questionable braking power didn’t exactly inspire confidence, but the show must go on.
Once on the Autobahn, the sheer absurdity of the build became clear.
Under acceleration, the car squatted dramatically, launching forward with surprising force.

Inside the cabin, however, the sensation of speed was oddly muted due to the high driving position.
Despite this, the numbers told a different story.
The speedometer maxed out at 220 km/h (136.7mph), and the Patrol actually kept going, so there was no way of telling how fast it was really going.

Shifting gears proved to be another challenge.
The straight-cut gearbox fought back aggressively, making each shift feel like a battle.
And when lifting off the throttle, the car became noticeably unstable, adding an extra layer of tension to the experience.
It was fast, but it was also unpredictable.
It drew attention for all the wrong reasons
After several high-speed pulls, the adventure continued into Munich, where the Patrol turned heads for entirely different reasons.
While it blended in as a normal SUV at first glance, it quickly revealed its true personality with some loud exhaust notes and flames.
Yes, despite being totally fine on the Autobahn, the Nissan Patrol faced problems within the city of Munich.

After getting the car running again, the YouTuber proudly paraded it down Munich’s busiest road, driving past dozens of G-Wagens and supercars.
Funnily enough, most of these supercars would probably lose to this unassuming SUV in a race, but nobody would ever know.
