This man decided to only use 1980s technology for an entire week.
And he ended up giving one ‘life-changing’ device a 10/10 verdict.
The unique video was put together by YouTuber Liam Thompson.
And it goes to show that going back to basics might not be such a bad thing.

YouTuber tests out 1980s technology for a week
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to travel back in time?
Could you put yourself through living without modern tech for a week?
Well, one YouTuber thought the same – so he decided to put himself to the test.
Enter Liam Thompson, a very popular YouTuber creator.
Thompson wanted to see if he could live without using any modern gadgets for a week.
And, after getting a special delivery of 1980s technology, he got to work.
Bear in mind – this means no iPhone, no MacBook, no AirPods; nothing.

Thompson even changed the camera that he used to record the whole thing.
Not to be deterred, he quickly got to work.
Among the gadgets he tried out were the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X.
This is the first mobile phone ever created, and was launched in 1983.
For navigation, his GPS was replaced by old-school paper maps.
And for entertainment, Thompson tried out a VCR.

One device delivered a ‘life-changing’ experience
But there was one piece of 1980s technology that truly blew the YouTuber away.
And that was the Sony Walkman.
Most people under the age of 40 probably have no idea what a Walkman is.
To put it simply, it was the original way to listen to your fave tunes on the go – after you’d recorded them from the radio.

Long before MP3 players, iPods, and phones, the Sony Walkman was the only way to play music while you traveled.
Amazingly, Walkmans somehow still exist.
Of course, given anything vintage or retro, they are now very expensive.
But Liam decided to try one out. And he was left incredibly impressed.
The physical sensation of pressing buttons and intentionally choosing an album felt ‘life-changing.’
He ended the video by saying he ‘had nothing bad to say’ about the Walkman.
At the end of the video, Liam delivered a resounding 10 out of 10 verdict for this particular piece of 1980s technology.
And honestly, we think we might have to agree with him. We’re not so sure he’d love a Discman, though…
