The Mazda RX-8 was certainly an impressive car in automotive history, but this example in Florida that surfaced on Facebook Marketplace raises a lot of questions, without many answers.

For starters, it comes with an odd-looking triangular steering wheel.

It also has more than a few mods installed and seems to be riddled with problems.

But – if you want – it could be yours.

Interesting Mazda RX-8 on Facebook Marketplace raises questions

A very unusual Mazda RX-8 popped up on Facebook Marketplace, and it’s listed for a mere $2,000 in Florida.

That price tag is no joke, as it’s backed up by some questionable photos of the JDM icon.

Although the RX-8 isn’t a fan favorite, even among enthusiasts of cars with rotary engines, it wasn’t a bad car.

As a matter of fact, these are hard to come by these days — at least the ones in half-decent condition.

While the Mazda RX-8 was obviously a failed car, you can still find one or two in secret car collections like this one.

This RX-8, however, was far from being a driveable car.

The listing only says that it has problems and that it ‘starts and stops’ without providing any other relevant information.

Meanwhile, the photos certainly mix things up as they reveal a truckload of modifications done by whoever drove it for the past decade or so.

For instance, there’s a very questionable body kit installed that would make petrolheads mad.

The exterior also was pretty roughed up and didn’t seem like it was taken care of.

It gets worse on the inside

On the inside, one photo is enough to reveal its condition.

The instrument cluster is lit up like a Christmas tree — so the hardware isn’t exactly in a happy state.

Moreover, someone installed a funny-looking switch just below the gear selector, which hints at a NOS installation.

The three-sided elephant in the cabin is the triangular steering wheel wrapped with tape, and it’s as unusual as it looks.

We’ve seen cars with tech-filled steering wheels and cars with no steering wheels — but this was a first.

It might be a tribute, or it might just be the result of someone having a bit of fun.

Regardless, it looks a lot like someone tried to make a yoke steering system like those in modern Tesla cars.

All things considered, this Mazda RX-8 might seem like a problematic purchase, but it really seems to be in great shape.

That is only if the rotary engine is still intact and fixable, though.

If not, it’s a piece of history waiting to be sent to a scrapyard.
