You’re probably familiar with McLaren supercars, but did you know about McLaren Special Operations, where you can make a truly unique vehicle?
McLaren Special Operations – or MSO – puts the customer at the very center of the design process, resulting in a completely bespoke vehicle.
The marque says its MSO offers a ‘virtually limitless’ service, allowing its customers to create a one-of-one supercar.
“At MSO, performance, innovation, and craftsmanship combine to deliver what we call ‘the art of the possible’,” the brand says on its website.

McLaren Special Operations (MSO)
McLaren proudly makes some of the most breathtaking supercars out there, such as the ground-breaking W1 and the iconic P1.
But for those who aren’t quite content with getting a production car, McLaren Special Operations (MSO) is there to craft something totally unique.

MSO was officially opened in 2011, but its origins actually date back a couple of decades earlier.
Like many luxury carmakers, McLaren was keen to ensure that its discerning customers got exactly what they wanted.
So, back in the 1990s, it set up its Customer Care Programme, which was created to service, maintain and personalize the F1 for customers.
Fast forward a couple of decades to 2011, and MSO was launched.
“Today MSO still offers an unrivaled level of knowledge and expertise on the McLaren F1, but as its unique tailoring service for customers continues to expand and the division embraces an unprecedented period of growth, five new tiers now identify the levels of bespoke work available from MSO,” the carmaker says.

These five tiers – MSO Defined, MSO Bespoke, MSO Limited, MSO Heritage, and MSO Programmes – are able to offer the complete tailoring of any model, from a custom color paint job on your favorite supercar to building a one-of-a-kind vehicle using the marque’s unique carbon fiber chassis.
The carmaker prides itself on MSO being able to ‘accommodate every customer request’.
Creating your bespoke supercar
The MSO Bespoke tier ‘offers a near limitless level of tailoring to its customers’, meaning you can choose just about whatever you want to get the supercar of your dreams.
“At MSO, the limits are set only by imagination,” the company says.
“From a one-off finish, material, or color that reflects your individuality. To crafting a unique car that breaks the boundaries of conventional personalization.”
Sounds impressive, doesn’t it?
But it goes way beyond the color of the paintwork, or even the color of the stitching used on the seats.
MSO Bespoke allows the customer to create a one-off vehicle that is specially designed and engineered with its own unique body, built onto a McLaren carbon fiber chassis.

And it’s a popular choice for customers, according to the brand.
“Approximately 95 percent of all P1 hypercars have been personalized through the MSO Bespoke service, with customized items including 24-carat-gold heatshields around the engine bay, inspired by the famous F1,” the brand said.
Of course, creating your own bespoke supercar from scratch doesn’t come cheap and MSO vehicles can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.
