The McMurtry Speirling is an extremely unique car.
For one thing, the prototype sports car is a single-seater machine.
For another, the all-electric prototype produces 1,000bhp.
It also recently completed an incredible feat – it drove upside-down.

McMurtry – a brand that you may never have heard of
In case you have never heard of the company, McMurtry is a truly interesting brand.
David McMurtry was an Irish business, who was born in Dublin in 1940.
McMurtry would eventually go on to co-found Renishaw Plc, the UK’s largest metrology equipment supplier.
David would establish McMurtry Automotive in June of 2016.
The company developed it’s maiden hypercar offering in secrecy over the next three years.
2021 saw the unveiling of the Speirling, the native Irish word for “Thunderstorm.”
After being unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2021, the Speirling made history in 2022.
The all-electric Speirling returned to Goodwood the following year and smashed the hill climb record.

Driven by Max Chilton, the Speirling raced through the course in just 39.08 seconds.
And the mind-boggling numbers only just begin from there.
McMurtry’s maiden hypercar produced a 0-60 time of just 1.55 seconds.
It also scorched from 0-100mph in just 2.63 seconds.
How do you like those apples, eh?
Speirling makes history – by driving upside-down
If you’re a motorsport fan, then you have may heard of the downforce debate.
Essentially, the theory runs that an F1 car produces so much downforce that it could, in theory, drive upside-down.
So, being the brand that it is, McMurtry decided to take the idea literally.
In a video recently uploaded to YouTube, the firm brought out a great, big, rotating rig.
They then decided to place the Speirling inside said rotating rig.
The McMurtry hypercar happens to come with a “Downforce-on-demand” fan system.
It just so happens to produce over 4,400lbs of downforce at the push of said button.

The Speirling then, whilst inverted, drove forward a few feet, before heading back down again.
Naturally, the team at the headquarters was absolutely ecstatic at defying science itself.
In case you’ve been reading this with a pure, giddy excitement, then I have good news for you.
McMurtry is working towards a production version of the Speirling.
it is set to be called the PURE, with just 100 set to be produced.
We certainly hope it ends up being the case – and huge credit to McMurtry.
