This Mercedes SLK 55 AMG restomod had turned it into something even more beautiful – a 300 SL Gullwing.

And all it took was a $299,950 and a whole helluva lot of work.

The process was carried out by Signature Autosports, who clearly love a challenge.

And the end result of this Mercedes-focused fusion is absolutely spectacular.

Stunning restomod turns Mercedes SLK 55 AMG into 300SL Gullwing

It is pretty hard to find someone who doesn’t love old cars.

They carry a certain nostalgic and timeless appeal for most of us.

Nowadays, the appeal almost always lies in the design of the vehicle.

And this is for a very good reason.

Old, classic vehicles can be difficult and expensive to maintain.

This is mostly due to the rarity of parts and the need for specialist engineering that doesn’t really exist anymore.

But one company might have just solved all of those issues.

Signature Autosports has managed to create a truly beautiful replica of a 1954-1957 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing.

And they used a 2014 SLK 55 AMG to do it.

Before old car purists jump out of the window, allow us to explain, because it could be the ultimate solution.

The restomod project, dubbed the 355 SL, fuses the beauty of the 300SL Gullwing with the comfort and practicality of owning a modern car.

Trust us, this project is an absolute beauty.

Meeting of past and present doesn’t come…cheap

It is powered by a 5.5-liter, naturally-aspirated V8 Mercedes powerplant.

Said powerplant produces 421hp, transmitted by the AMG Speedshift Plus seven-speed automatic.

Of course, the retro look has to be considered.

So Signature Autosports sourced a set of custom 18-inch wheels crafted to fit 300SL hubcaps.

These are also accompanied by a set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.

A stunning metallic black paint finish completes the incredible look.

You might be wondering what a modern interior looks like in such an old exterior.

Well, it certainly does look…futuristic, but it definitely works.

The company kept the SLK 55 AMG’s interior elements, including the heated power seats, a modern sound system, air conditioning, and Bluetooth.

Unfortunately, all of this history-and-future fusion doesn’t come cheap.

This restomod, even with 69,500 miles on the clock, is priced at a breathtaking $299,950.

Now, that sounds like a lot – but consider this.

You can pick up an SLS AMG for somewhere in the $120,000 range.

But an authentic 300SL Gullwing will set you back around $8,000,000.

Seems like a fair and powerful compromise to us.
