The owner of a Mercedes Sprinter learned a hard lesson after attempting to tackle a Utah Jeep trail, despite having just four hours of off-road experience.
While there are worse choices than the ever-reliable Sprinter for a little bit of off-road fun, it’s certainly not designed to tackle some of the harsher trails the US has to offer – such as the Utah Honeymoon trail.
However, that didn’t stop this Mercedes owner from giving it a go – even with his very limited off-road experience.
And, as you might have guessed, things didn’t work out very well for him.

The Mercedes Sprinter van got stuck on a Utah Jeep trail
Utah’s Honeymoon trail is usually tackled by Jeeps or other properly equipped off-road vehicles.
Like many of the trails out in Utah, the rough and tough terrain is not for the faint of heart – even Jeeps can find themselves completely stuck at times.
Which really makes you wonder why someone thought they could tackle it in a Mercedes Sprinter van.
Somewhat inevitably, it wasn’t long before the driver found himself completely stuck and had to call for help.
He contacted Matt from Matt’s Off-Road Recovery YouTube channel who hopped into his trusty off-roader and headed out to the trail.
Matt was fairly surprised to learn that someone had attempted the trail in the van.
“A Sprinter van sounds like it shouldn’t be on there at all,” Matt said.
And a look at the rugged and hilly local terrain quickly confirms that.
The driver admitted to having very little experience
Matt found the Mercedes Sprinter stuck on some loose, stacked gravel, leaning towards the passenger side near a pretty steep drop. Not ideal.
Thankfully, the driver was well-aware he had bitten off more than he could chew and had contacted Matt for help before revealing how inexperienced he was.
“I’ve got about four hours of off-road driving under my belt,” he admitted to Matt.
At least he ‘fessed up, right?
Fortunately, Matt was able to safely get the Sprinter out of the tough spot without too much bother – he didn’t even need to use another vehicle for help.
Here’s hoping the driver learned a solid lesson that day.
