New York Mets third baseman Brett Baty gave his No. 22 jersey number to Juan Soto and was given an incredible gift in return: a $92,000 Tahoe.
Soto recently signed a $765 million 15-year contract with the Mets – the largest contract in professional sports history.
Soto had worn No. 22 his whole career but when he joined the Mets, he was hit with a bit of a problem as Baty was already wearing the number.
However, Baty was more than happy to give up the No. 22 jersey – and Soto was quick to thank him with a very generous gesture.

Juan Soto wanted to buy Brett Baty’s ‘dream car’
Despite wearing the No. 22 throughout his time at the Mets, Baty switched to No. 7 to give his new teammate his beloved number.
And his kind act really paid off with Soto deciding to repay Baty by buying him his ‘dream car’ – but had to do a bit of digging beforehand.
He eventually found out that Baty’s dream vehicle was a $92,000 Chevrolet Tahoe.
“We did our [research] and tried to make sure it was a car he likes,” Soto told SNY.
“He was talking to one of our guys and he was letting him know it was the car of his dreams.
“So I made sure he got it.”
Brett Baty said getting the Chevy Tahoe was ‘amazing’
Juan Soto presented the all-black fifth-generation Chevy Tahoe to his teammate outside the Mets training complex in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
He’d wrapped the SUV in a big red ribbon and had written the words, ‘Thanks for #22’ across the rear windshield.
“I just appreciate you,” Soto said while handing over the vehicle.
“Thank you for the number, I really appreciate it. It’s the first one I ever wore, so I want to give you something nice.”
He went on to say that he hoped the gift made giving up the No. 22 worth it.
As you can imagine, Baty was delighted with his gift, telling reporters it was ‘amazing’.
“Just for him to be able to think to do something like that, I couldn’t be more grateful. I’m just really excited that he’s on our team,” he said.
