Meet the MINI Cooper SE Convertible – the world’s first electric convertible.

MINI just announced that the EV drop-top will go into limited-series production.

How limited are we talking?

Only 999 examples will be built.

That’s not the only thing: specifications are fixed, and there’s only a choice of two colors.

Hopefully you’re a fan of ‘White Silver’ or ‘Enigmatic Black’.

CHECK THIS OUT!

We really should be grateful that we’re even getting the MINI Cooper SE Convertible.

The truth is, it wasn’t supposed to exist beyond a single prototype.

However, MINI says “positive feedback” was simply too great to ignore.

So, what can we expect from the MINI Cooper SE Convertible?

The prototype we saw eight months ago is what’s being brought to the streets, and that’s based on the production Cooper SE Hardtop.

The Convertible model uses the same 181-horsepower electric motor as the current MINI EV, although it will no doubt be heavier and therefore slower.

MINI says it’ll accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 8.2 seconds.

It also claims that the MINI Cooper SE Convertible, on a full charge, has a WLTP-tested range of 201 kilometers (125 miles).

Looks wise, other than the fact the roof goes down, it doesn’t look too dissimilar to the current MINI EV.

Speaking of said ragtop, the Union Jack-emblazoned roof can be raised and lowered electrically at speeds of up to 28 km/h (18 mph).

The MINI Cooper SE Convertible features special door sills and 1/999 badging, as well as 17-inch wheels made from recycled aluminum.

It also has black mirror caps, and piano-black and ‘Bronze Resolute’ exterior detailing.

On the inside, there’s sports seats, more piano-black trim, and a heated Nappa leather steering wheel.

There’s some good tech on offer, too, such as a head-up display, Harmon Kardon stereo, wireless phone charging, sat nav, and rear-view camera.

MINI Cooper SE Convertible price

The MINI Cooper SE Convertible goes on sale in April priced at £52,500 – equivalent to around $63k at the time of writing.

Unfortunately, the EV drop-top will be exclusive to Europe.
