The Mini has always been an iconic car.

Once a symbol of British culture, the Mini has become one of the most famous cars ever made.

Back in the early 1990s, a development company built a one-off example.

And it might be the most insane Mini you’ll ever see.

A true icon of British culture

When you think of the Swinging Sixties, of London, and of counterculture, you think of a few things.

The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Who.

However, the Mini is arguably the symbol at the heart of an iconic era.

First produced by the British Motor Corporation – the BMC – in 1959, the car revolutionized the market.

It’s small, compact, yet extremely spacious design quickly took the world by storm.

Featuring in classic heist movie The Italian Job in 1969 enshrined its place in history as an icon of the car world.

It was then modified for competition with the legendary collaboration between BMC and John Cooper.

In fact, the Mini Cooper S won the Monte Carlo Rally on three occasions – in 1964, 1965, and 1967.

Modified Mini looks like a missile

A company called GT Developments got their hands on an original Austin example back in 1994.

In case you’ve never heard of them, the company was at the forefront of building Ford GT40 replicas in the 1990s.

But they decided to show off their craftsmanship on this little old car as a change of pace.

Now, it bears more of a resemblance to a creation from NASA.

This hand-built, custom chassis pickup was sourced from an old Mini station wagon.

The guys at GT Developments then removed most of the auto’s rear half.

They managed to create… a literal mid-engine Mini.

This example also happens to have a monster of an engine, too. Powering the pickup is a 5.0-liter Ford V8 – producing 300HP.

To be honest, this British icon might actually take off if accelerated too hard.

For this alone, we tip our caps to GT Developments for such a wonderful one-off creation.

What do you think? Is it incredible or a step too far for the beloved Mini?
