When a Missouri woman bought a used car for her son and the engine died just four months later, there was a surprising reaction from the dealership.

The owner of Northtowne Auto Group in Gladstone, Missouri, posted a video on TikTok revealing what happened when his customer bought a 2017 Hyundai Tucson.

The owner, JP, said that in 30 years of business, he’d come across his fair share of situations, including colorful feedback from customers.

But what he decided to do next was totally unexpected.

What happened with the used car?

JP told viewers that he sold the 2017 Tucson in June 2025 with around 85,000 miles on it.

It was sold for $12,500 to a woman who was buying it as a gift for her son to drive to college.

Since then, he had put 2,000 miles on it, yet suddenly the engine under the hood decided to give up.

Upon agreeing to look at the car for free, JP found out that the customers did not have a warranty extension.

“They bought the car with a 30-day, thousand-mile warranty on it,” he said.

That left him with a dilemma.

Despite the warranty issue, JP decided to help.

In fact, he went above and beyond.

The dealership did what very few would

JP said customer service was his number one priority, so he decided to give his customer their money back for the Hyundai.

He said he then planned to find them a different car that would suit their needs and they could put that refunded money towards the new vehicle.

If they wanted to spend a little bit more money, too, that was okay as well.

“Yeah we could have been a**holes like every other dealer in the United States, and said well ‘too bad’,” he continued.

“But nope, not in Northtowne, not with JP, we take care of our people.”

So despite it only having a 30-day, 1,000-mile warranty, JP was determined to look after his customers.

That generous decision paid off for JP too, with commentators on the video praising him and his dealership for their service.

In fact, some had even used his company to search for a new car after seeing the video.

So it was a win for both the customer and the business.
