A snake popped out from under a Missouri woman’s car hood, giving her and her son the surprise of their lives.
The pair was driving to her son’s baseball practice, and the woman saw it pop out en route, but she wanted to make sure her son wasn’t late.
That led to attempts to get the creature off the car and back into the wild, although it seemed quite reluctant to leave its new home.
Images of the slithering creature were shared on Instagram by the Missouri Department of Conservation, and surprisingly, this occurrence is more common than you might think.

What was a pretty ordinary journey to baseball practice certainly took an unusual turn for the mother and son.
Reports say that the animal simply popped its head out of the car hood as the Missouri pair were driving.
There was no way the snake could get inside the car, but it certainly gave the occupants a shock.
Thankfully, the woman didn’t panic and instead kept driving to baseball practice.
During that time, the snake stayed out of the hood, looking around and seemingly enjoying their journey.
Upon arrival, the woman and her son had to work out how to get the snake away from the car.
That led to some slightly humorous efforts to ‘shoo’ the animal back into the wilderness.
Clearly comfortable with his new home, the snake promptly popped back under the hood and decided to stay there.
That’s when the Missouri Department of Conservation stepped in to rescue the snake from the engine bay of the car.
Colleagues of the woman, who teaches at the school her son went to practice at, assisted in the removal of the critter.
Not all snakes are dangerous, however, it probably isn’t ideal to have one residing in your daily driver.

This snake wasn’t venomous, thankfully, and just wanted to go about their day without being disturbed.
Incredibly, this is more common than you think.
The warmth of engine bays provides an ideal resting spot for snakes.
But it appears that this little guy was able to get back to where he belonged.
