Have you ever wondered what the monthly cost of charging a Tesla Cybertruck vs. filling a Ram 1500 is?
Well, wonder no more – because someone actually found out.
It is the latest instalment in the debate between charging and filling.
But the gap is nothing short of staggering.

To fuel or to charge? That is the question…
The debate between EVs and ICE-powered cars continues to dominate the automotive industry.
In fact, those debates have raged throughout the car world for over a decade.
People still argue over whether it is cheaper to charge an EV or gas up an ICE-powered vehicle.
Recently, that debate was put to the test.
And it pits two polar-opposite vehicles against each other.
In one corner, we have the Tesla Cybertruck.
Perhaps still the most eye-catching vehicle of the modern era.
And in the other corner, we find the Ram 1500 pickup truck.

These two vehicles are the most comparable test because they are both considered full-size pickups.
Of course, that is where the similarities end – and the differences begin.
For one thing, the entry-level Tesla Cybertruck starts at $79,990.
That is nearly double the entry-level 2025 Ram 1500, which starts at $40,275.
So, round one resoundingly goes to the Ram 1500.

But can the Tesla make up for the price disparity with monthly costs?
Before we reveal the staggering difference, here are some of the key numbers.
According to the US Department of Energy (DOE), the Cybertruck uses 41kWh per mile.
The Energy Information Administration cites the 2025 average cost of residential electric power at $0.17 per kWh.
On the other hand, the DOE puts the fuel economy of the Ram 1500 at about 23 mpg.
According to AAA, the national average cost of gas is around $3.12 per gallon as of October.
In order to make this experiment fair, assume that each vehicle drives 15,000 miles per year.
The average Tesla Cybertruck costs around $6.97 to charge per 100 miles driven.

Using the 15,000-mile measurement, the Cybertruck costs around $1,045.50 per year to charge.
That breaks down to a monthly electric bill of around $87.13.
More than impressive, right?
So, let’s take a look at the Ram 1500.
The average Ram 1500 costs $13.42 to fuel per 100 miles.

Using the same 15,000-mile standard, the Ram 1500 works out at around $2,013 per year to fuel.
Which leaves a monthly gas bill of around $167.75.
As a result, the Tesla Cybertruck costs almost half as much to actually own and run.
While the Ram 1500 might be cheaper to buy, those savings will likely get eaten into the longer you own it.
Score a big, economical win for the Tesla Cybertruck.
